![]() But it didn't happen too often and it was nothing that disrupted gameplay too much. The only thing I didn't like was that sometimes the game seemed a little glitchy or t hat it was dragging a bit. ![]() Otherwise the controls are relatively easy to memorize. The story is told with the assistance of beautiful graphics that are made to resemble traditional Japanese paintings and the music also has elements of traditional sounding Japanese music.Īs for the gameplay, at first it's a little hard to get used to using the Celestial Brush and everything, but something about it makes you feel just so much more involved in the game. In a nutshell, Okami is about a wolf who has to save the world, but there's much more to it than that. After about one hour of playing it, I understood what all the talk was about. I decided to buy Okami for Wii seeing as how it got rave reviews from almost everyone who played it. Good story, great graphics, excellent music! HOwever, the hardcore gamer will probably have a ton of fun with it as well, especially if it's getting pretty hard for me so early. I'm somewhat in the middle as far as gamers go (not too hardcore, but not just a computer solitare player) so this game is good for me. A lot of the mini games are not mini games at all and advance the story line, but are not as annoyi ng as some of the Zelda mini games (like target practice). If you're questing after something, it's easy enough to avoid these. Just engage the many floating demon scrolls for fights. I like that if you want to spend your time leveling up, it's very easy to do so. It's great that it's a challenge, and even greater how much play time there appears to be. I'm now almost finished with the second but it's gotten difficult. I thought I was finished with the game after 30 some hours but was caught up in another story. It's a fun adventure game and has a ton of play time. It is a good use of the wii-mote, though the strokes can be somewhat challenging at times. If the game wasn't on your radar before, you may want to keep an eye on it-and we'll be sure to bring you more coverage.įor more updates, be sure to check GameSpot's coverage of Tokyo Game Show 2004.I really like the play of the game. No word yet on whether or not the game will see a US release, but we'd like to think so-Okami looks original and inspired. Okami is currently slated to ship sometime next year for the PlayStation 2 in Japan. We're even treated to some footage of the wolfy one tackling some foes and restoring color to the land, which features a pretty slick effect. The scenes from the trailer show Amaterasu mingling with the common folk and helping them with their troubles-resulting in more power for her. The more faith people have in Amaterasu, the more powerful she becomes. A respectable level of belief can be achieved either by listening to and then acting upon the wishes of the people, or by restoring color and life to the land. Since Amaterasu is a deity, her power is, in part, derived from humans who believe in her. We're especially intrigued by the system with which Amaterasu will grow in power. The gameplay itself seems to be firmly rooted in the third-person action genre and will send players off to explore and interact with the residents-friendly and otherwise-of the game's unusual world. The end result is rich, stylized appearance that is like nothing we've ever seen before. The game looks like hand-brushed Japanese calligraphy, resulting in visuals that appear like a mix of Viewtiful Joe and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The game's look is similar in style to the studios' work with cel shading on the Viewtiful Joe games, but Okami takes the technique in a completely different direction. While the game isn't playable on the Tokyo Game Show floor, Capcom has at least shown off a new trailer for it that makes it look more promising than ever.įirst off, much like Clover Studios' Viewtiful Joe series, Okami clearly features some superb art direction. Since then, development has gone quietly, save for the occasional-and intriguing-new media release showing off Okami's unique look. This "nature adventure" game was first unveiled in April, when Clover announced the game for the PlayStation 2 on its Web site. The deity sets out to save the earth from trouble by defeating monsters and literally returning color to the land. TOKYO-At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom unveiled an impressive new trailer for Okami, an upcoming action adventure title from Capcom's Clover Studios that will put players in the role of a wolf who happens to be the earthly form of Amaterasu, a mythical sun goddess.
